Jacinta Whitcome: Jacinta Whitcome
Jacinta Whitcome - Bio
Singing WordSMITH and SouNd Philosopher
With the release of her first full length album, Blue Slate Zephyr, in July of 2006, Jacinta Whitcome has accomplished the first step of a long journey with many first steps and no particular destination. The material contained on the album illustrates Jacinta’s craftsmanship, intuitive lyrical ability, and innate emotional intelligence. A true alchemist at heart, Jacinta strives to find or create gold from the shadows of life. She is always learning and working with different styles of music as well. She began writing songs at an early age discovering that when one truly listens, the hearing does not simply occur within the ear; the resonance is experienced throughout the entire entity of the human being. As an avid listener Jacinta Whitcome has experienced this throughout her entire life, seeking to recreate this extraordinary connection for others as well as to find her own expression of it.
With the encouragement and edification of the network of artists, actors, musicians and writers around her, she delved into an infinite universe of songwriting. As a performer Jacinta creates intimacy and understanding between the listener, the music, the words and herself. She is always seeking, with humble gratitude, to unwrap the grace and humor in every aspect of life. Her focus as a performer is on deriving beauty from the mundane, humor from the ever-feared “mistake” (musicians like to call it improvisation) and to cultivate the seed of calm amidst the thrashing denial of completeness that we humans like to call life. Jacinta returned to western New York in 2005 after living in the greater Boston, Massachusetts area for seven years and Colorado for 2 years. While in Massachusetts she focused on performing and songwriting. She honed her talents on the songwriter circuit of Cambridge, and neighboring cities.
She eventually chose to experience life from a perspective other than that of the Cheshire songwriter, ever-observing the strange happenings around her. She decided to dive into life by working on a lobster boat where she heard the tales of the sea and experienced a dying breed of old school lobstermen. She mingled with painters, writers, musicians and street-folk, all the while collecting stories and the sounds of life. In 2003 she traveled to Boulder, Colorado and lived there for two years to attend Naropa University seeking a degree in expressive therapy. Eventually she realized that no matter where she went or what she did she would never live happier or give more than by listening to and expressing the intricacies and omnipotent beauty of the life around her.
