Julie's Song

(Jacinta Whitcome)

Recorded by Nathan Harpst at Slim Studios

Julie's story, Julies Song...this was written in Colorado at a songwriting workshop in Lyons. Julie was the person I interviewed and then wrote a song from her story. If you are interested in songwriting or have writer's block try this exercise as it spurred creativity like nothing I had tried before.
Julie’s Song
2005
Jacinta Whitcome

VERSE 1:
My body crumbled off of me
Like the earth was splitting
A birth of valleys and canyons emerged
With each crevice of light I kept digging

VERSE 2:
At times I’d fear I was drifting away
Asking where am I now
Weightless as a butterfly with nothing left to deny
I became more myself somehow

CHORUS:
This is how you always wanted me to be
But I am so much more than you could ever see
Your words used to hold so much weight
But it’s off my shoulders now I’m in a different state

VERSE 3:
Looking at three different photos
I wondered who this that I see is
Looking into the mirror
I couldn’t believe that this woman was me

BRIDGE:
My love took my hand
I asked what she would think once the changes were complete
She just smiled and said
Ask me when we’re ninety

CHORUS:
This is how you always wanted me to be
But I am so much more than you could or will ever see
Your words used to hold so much weight
But it’s off my shoulders now I’m in a different state
